VOD-to-Live Example
VOD-to-Live is an example implementation that shows how to get the channels published by the Channel Service to Unified Streaming Virtual Channels, so viewers can watch them as live streams. It is not a standalone service: it is part of the Channel solution in the Mosaic Media Template, and you use it as a starting point for your own integration.
The example is a small orchestration service that reacts to messages from the Channel Service:
- When a channel is published, it creates a live stream with the live encoder and an ad-combined stream with a server-side ad insertion (SSAI) service.
- It publishes the resulting stream URLs, which the Catalog Service adds to the catalog for your apps.
- When a playlist is published, it updates the live stream.
- If DRM protection is enabled, it also calls the Key Service.
The following diagram shows the flow.
What the Example Uses
- Live encoder: Unified Streaming Virtual Channels
- Server-side ad insertion: Ad Insertion Platform
- Data: no database or persistent storage
- UI: no workflows in the Management System
The example demonstrates the integration and is not meant for production use as it is.
Adapt It to Your Setup
To use a different live encoder or SSAI partner, replace the integrations in the example. The README in the Mosaic Media Template repository describes how. The example is open source, like the rest of the Mosaic Media Template.
