DRM only: your own packager and player
This article is a part of the DRM Quick Start guide.
You already have a way to encode and package video, and a player to play it. What you need from Axinom is a Key Service that hands content keys to your packager, and a License Service that hands licenses to your players.
This path shows you both, using the values that your Mosaic environment already contains.
What you will do
- Get your credentials and play a test stream. You find your communication key and License Service URLs, sign a token, and play an Axinom test vector in a browser.
- Get content keys for your packager. You request a content key from the Key Service with the protocol your packager speaks.
- Integrate your player and prepare for production. You point your player at the License Service and go through the steps that separate an evaluation from a production setup.
Expect the first two steps to take about twenty minutes. The third depends on your player.
What works self-service in a trial
Your trial environment is a Mosaic environment, and its DRM configuration lives in the Management System under Admin Settings / DRM Service. Everything the License Service needs is there: the communication key that signs your tokens, and the license acquisition URLs for Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay.
For the Key Service, it depends on the protocol your packager uses:
| Protocol | Authentication | Available in a trial |
|---|---|---|
| Widevine Common Encryption | Signed requests with credentials you create in the Management System | Yes, self-service |
| SPEKE, Harmonic, Anevia, Broadpeak | Basic authentication with your Tenant ID and a Key Service management key | A management key is issued on request; see below |
A Mosaic environment authenticates through Mosaic, so it is created without a Key Service management key. If your packager can only use Basic authentication against the Key Service, for example through SPEKE, request a management key from Axinom Support. State the name of your environment and the protocol you use. Support is free and unlimited during the trial.
What you do not need
- You do not need Axinom Encoding or the Video Service. They stay enabled in the environment, but nothing in this path uses them.
- You do not need a configuration PDF or a management key for the License Service. The communication key is all a player integration requires.
- You do not need your own video yet. Axinom publishes test vectors that you can play with your own credentials.
